The site follows on from the alpha site launched in July, ditching images for blocks of text that relate to broad areas of government services. For example, there is a health section, a law and justice section, and a money, benefits and tax section.
The beta intends to make the government portal easier to use. “With lots of government information online, we know it can be hard to find exactly what you’re looking for,” the site explains. “We understand the importance of having a site that’s written in plain English and easy to navigate”.
The beta team are tracking analytics of users of the website to discover how they interact with the site, and to help make continuous improvements. The project team is also asking for feedback on how content is written on the website to make it easier to understand.
The website fits all screen sizes. Unlike the current blue colour scheme on the existing e-government portal, the beta site is green.
The site has new features when compared to the alpha. It has a popular content section, a new blog to track developments on the website, a public holiday tracker, and an improved section for displaying government announcements.
