Transforming Government since 2001
Almost one in three Australian adults now gain access to Government services through the online services gateway, myGov.

Minister for Human Services, Marise Payne said this represented five million active users.

"myGov has experienced a remarkable rise in traffic since the addition of the Australian Tax Office on 1 July with more than two million new accounts created since the start of the new financial year," Senator Payne said.

"There's no question that the introduction of the ability to lodge a simple tax return through myGov has been responsible for a huge surge in the number of registrations this year."

She said that on average almost 40,000 new users signed up each day in July. Through myGov, people can link to their online accounts for Medicare, Centrelink, Child Support, the Department of Veterans' Affairs, the National Disability Insurance Scheme, the Personally Controlled e-Health Record System and the Australian Taxation Office.

"The benefit of myGov is that people only need one log-in to access all of these service providers directly from their desktop, tablet or smartphone," Senator Payne said.

"The services available through myGov are regularly evolving as member providers upgrade their online offerings. For example, my Department has progressively broadened the range of Centrelink and Medicare services available online to make routine transactions quick and easy."

She said myGov had new features, including the Australian Tax Office's myTax service and the more recent addition of a link to Australia Post's myPost digital mail service.

"My Department will continue to encourage and engage with other Government service providers, including State and Territory Governments, who may be interested in offering their online options through myGov," the Minister said.
