The federal government's plan to move from paper-based records to secure eHealth records was released by the government during a model eHealth simulation in Parliament House last week.
Blacktown is one of the 12 sites in Western Sydney selected for residents to register for eHealth records.
Greenway MP Michelle Rowland met with eHealth experts including Dr Chris Mitchell.
She said patients could soon register for a personally controlled electronic health record.
"This will be a secure record which will hold a patient's key health information," Ms Rowland said.
"It will boost patient safety, improve health care delivery, and cut waste and unnecessary duplication.
"Parents will no longer have to remember which child has had which test, treatment or immunisation."
