Health Minister Nicola Roxon and Julia Gillard were quiet enthusiastic with the project of Telehealth and video-conferencing medical consultation service that was going to be launched in Australia after the elections were conducted.

The project demanded an investment of $620 million that was announced at the Labor's 2010 election campaign launch. As per the Labor, the new technology prone medical services were going to bring a big change in the medical service section of Australia. The project was quite comfortably going to be involved in the policies of the primary health care.

The new technology had helped saving an elderly woman from taking a 3000 km travel to a dermatologist as through teleconferencing the lady consulted with the doctor and got the skin lension on her diagnosed thereby receiving the further process of treatment.

As per Ms. Roxon, the program of Medicare rebates and cash payments to doctors to invest in technology or training is aimed at rural, regional and outer metropolitan areas, covering 62% of the population. The program is expected to lead to 495,000 telehealth consultations in the first four years. The labor was working to seek votes by discussing the telehealth agenda with the people and had already managed to gain a sufficient vote bank supporting the project.
