Salesforce's Lindsey Armstrong notes that the Cloud 2 capability is one that is inherently social, collaborative, and delivers real-time access to data and information across new mobile devices.
'The first phase of cloud computing was about leveraging technologies that were low cost, fast, and easy to use on your desktop,' Ms Armstrong, Salesforce's executive VP for Asia-Pacific and Japan, informs BizIT.
She adds that cloud computing has already demonstrated that enterprises will rely on the cloud as their means of creating new capability without committing scarce capital. 'Even old-guard IT providers now assert that their future is one of cloud-focused capability,' the Salesforce official notes.
'Collaboration' was the key takeaway from Dreamforce 2010 for all companies, Ms Armstrong adds, referring to the company's global cloud computing event which was held recently in San Francisco.
'At Dreamforce 2010, we accelerated the market shift to the next cloud computing paradigm, Cloud 2, with the introduction of Chatter Free.'
She explains that Chatter Free allows enterprises to extend social collaboration technology to every employee in the organisation and will accelerate the adoption of social collaboration throughout the enterprise.
'Using the social invitation model popularised by Facebook, now any Salesforce user can invite colleagues to collaborate with Salesforce Chatter. The result is a new level of productivity that crosses departments and organisational barriers.'
