It does so by making public policy making processes more transparent.
He says it has also created a channel for the public to communicate and transact with the government.
The symposium was opened by Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.
Dr Balaji explained that as both Indonesia and Singapore progressed into a knowledge-driven stage of economic development, there would be many more opportunities for both countries to benefit from closer industry collaborations in deploying e-services.
Singapore's companies would be able to contribute to Indonesia's e-government action plan by shortening the learning curve.
Dr Balaji also told the symposium a critical success factor for any e-government initiative is that public agencies must have a keen desire to serve their customers with the highest standards of responsiveness.
