Transforming Government since 2001
Citizens in North Dorset will benefit from improved business processes at their local authority, as North Dorset District Council rolls out a corporate document management solution.

As part of a £200,000 deal, supplier Comino will work in partnership with North Dorset District Council to overcome the challenges posed by the Government’s drive to encourage citizens to interact with their authority online. Comino’s Universal Government incorporates Electronic Document Management (EDM), Document Imaging Processing (DIP) and Workflow applications, which allow North Dorset to improve the accessibility and availability of information for its staff, in turn promoting better efficiency and productivity. The solution is currently being implemented within the authority’s revenues and benefits, planning, licensing, environmental services and finance departments.

Lindsay Dransfield, Director at Comino, comments, “By using EDM and workflow across several departments, North Dorset District Council will have immediate access to electronic documents, which will allow them to deliver a more consistent customer service and therefore improving their relationships with citizens.

Universal Government’s capabilities enable North Dorset to create, access and amend electronic documents, replacing heavily administrative paper-filing systems. A full audit trail allows staff to track information and view, share and update documents more easily. DIP eliminates time-consuming photocopying as all documents received are scanned into the system and stored electronically, while the workflow engine processes and routes documents, files and tasks to allocated staff.

The rural area of North Dorset covers 235 square miles. The population is 62,000. This figure has increased significantly in recent years and is likely to continue increasing for the foreseeable future. The number of residential properties is 28,000.
