Transforming Government since 2001
Local councils have been told to get blogging. The British government funded local e-Democracy National e-Government Project is encouraging local councils to share more of their thoughts with the voters through weblogs.

Blogging, which is experiencing a boom time as more and more people use these online soapboxes for anything from simple diaries of their activities to campaigns to change the world. US experience has shown that local government and communities can become much closer and share more mutual understanding through regularly updated blogs. An early pilot project for local government blogging has come through the site read my day website. Funded by the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister and partnered with the Hansard Society, NorthLincsNet (North Lincolnshire Council) and the experience of bloggers in Minnesota, the aim is part of a wider local e-democracy initiative. As part of the project which ends in March neophyte bloggers have had to a keep regular blog, upto the end of March 2005, preferably for up to 6 months.
