Global business outsourcer Arvato won the contract to provide Slough Borough Council's services, including setting-up a shared services hub.
The deal includes the transfer of 102 council employees and the company will deliver 'back office' services including revenue, payroll, finance and logistics.
Roger Parkin, director of customer and community services at Slough Borough Council, said: "Not only will the new shared services centre reduce costs and improve efficiency for the council, it will also bring wealth into the area and provide career and training opportunities for employees.
"We believe that this model is the shape of things to come for other councils. Standardised operating platforms and processes bring greater efficiencies. Instead of having to invest heavily in back office support functions, councils can spend their budgets on the services which matter most to the public."
The two organisations will work together to ensure the transactional service centre focuses on seamless service delivery and continual improvement.
Rainer Majcen, public sector managing director at Arvato UK & Ireland, said: "It is an example of how public sector organisations can start to really change the ways in which they deliver services."
