New staff to build on transformation success

The London Borough of Lambeth is looking to recruit IT staff to work on its business transformation programme and help improve operational efficiency.

The council is seeking a business transformation manager, project managers, application and server support and data communication officers, and programme and systems administrative officers, to work on projects intended to deliver cost savings.

‘In the past 12 months Lambeth’s egovernment and IT services have been reorganised and centralised,’ said the council’s egovernment programme manager Simon Morioka.

‘This has allowed us to reduce the cost of providing IT services while continuing to transform the way we do business and interact with customers, with targeted investment in new systems and technologies.’

Morioka says projects such as a new call centre and the re-launch of Lambeth’s transactional web site have contributed major savings, through the integration of customer records and relationship management.

‘Better processes have supported Lambeth’s transformation and realised £1.8m per annum of efficiency gains in 2004 to 2005 and an incremental £1.8m in 2005 to 2006,’ he said.

The egovernment and IT services team is being expanded in a move to realise further savings, with the emphasis on examining, understanding and streamlining business processes before developing IT to deliver on them.

‘We are looking for individuals who can understand and partner customer-facing departments,’ said Morioka.
