Transforming Government since 2001
A September 16 Uzbek Cabinet of Ministers resolution calls for creating a state-run, anti-hacking centre and an e-government centre, Norma.uz reported September 22. Both centres would fall under the auspices of the State Committee for Communication, Informatisation and Telecommunication Technologies.

The anti-hacking centre would protect government agencies' information systems and resources, define and analyse threats to information security, and devise solutions to information security problems facing the Uzbek effort to institute e-government.

The e-government centre would define the strategic directions of the ongoing e-government project, refine the business processes of state agencies that serve businesses and the public, and monitor the integration and development of IT in Uzbekistan.

The committee is planning to hire staff and buy equipment for both centres. Uzbekistan this summer also put into service an inter-active e-government portal.
