GOVERNMENT has urged the public and private sectors to effectively embrace the use of information communication technologies (ICTs) to stimulate economic development, Minister of Transport and Communication Brian Mushimba has said.
Mr Mushimba said embracing ICTs is in line with President Lungu’s vision of making the country smart by promoting innovation in the provision of products and services.
“Zambia can be a hub for many things, including internet. [We need] to unlock a number of potential that the country has, such as e-government, e-commerce, e-post services and electronising everything that we do and deliver efficiency.
“...This is a vision of President Lungu to make sure that we start making Zambia smart,” he said.
Mr Mushimba said this during a tour of the newly-constructed ICT centre of excellence at the ICT College in Ndola on Saturday.
He urged the public to acquire ICT knowledge at the centre of excellence to help grow the economy through innovation and creativity.
The facility is a world-class infrastructure fully equipped with state-of-the-art technologies which will offer ICT training skills.
He has since described the project as very impressive because of its modern structure which is equal to what Government is expecting.
“The message I will take to the President is that the investment that Government has put into the institution is meeting the expectations of Government,” he said.
He has also called on management at the college to maintain and secure the facility so that it can last long.
He urged the youths to take advantage of the new facility as the future lies in ICTs.
