Transforming Government since 2001
The enhancement in information and communications technology (ICT) is increasingly becoming important not only for the transformation of a networked society, but also for economic development, JSE head of Information technology (IT) infrastructure Dennis Mwansa has said.

Dr Mwansa said Zambia has continued to register growth in the ICT sector due to a free and open market that has embraced a stable business environment in the country.

He said there are a number of viable investment opportunities in the ICT sector in Zambia that need to be explored.

“In 2014, phone users accessed 76,000 data characters per month, almost double the 2013 figure of 37,500 per month,” he said in a presentation at the Zambia investment conference recently Dr Mwansa anticipates that in 2015, the figure is expected to again double with mobile phone users accessing 147,000 per month.

The young growing population has continued to embrace and view mobile phones, access to the internet, as a necessity rather than a luxury.

He said Africa has the fastest growth in mobile adoption rates in the world and that time has come for countries to investment in African ICT ventures.
