Minister of Transport and Acting CEO of Economic Development Board (EDB) Kamal Bin Ahmed Mohammed chaired the second meeting of the Ministerial Committee of GCC E-Government, in presence of the GCC Secretary General, Dr. Abdullatif Al-Zayani, and the relevant ministers of the e-government in the member states. The meeting was hosted by Kingdom of Bahrain to discuss a number of issues related to improving and developing the e-government services and common cooperation issues.

The meeting aimed at developing the coordination and cooperation means between GCC states to achieve the views and aspirations of Their Majesties and Highnesses the leaders of the GCC states in an initiative to move from the Gulf cooperation to the union stage as an embodiment of the concern of the leaders and accomplishing of the aspirations of GCC states.

Minister of Transport, Kamal Bin Ahmed Mohammed stressed the Kingdom’s keenness to promote the course of the joint Gulf Action through its continuous initiatives.

The GCC Secretary General commended the guiding strategy bill, as well as the effort made by the Executive Committee in preparing the strategy in that integrated form, where the Gulf states could proceed to implement the e-government programmes in future.

The meeting also reviewed a number of memoranda prepared by the executive committee of the GCC e-government concerning the guiding strategy bill in the area of e-government, as well as discussing the proposal of holding an electronic governance conference for the GCC states and the European Union to be held in July 2013.

The meeting discussed a memorandum submitted by the Sultanate of Oman on hosting the Regional Centre for electronic security, and a proposal submitted by Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s delegation concerning the establishment of GCC e-government network. The ministerial committee commended the proposal and considered it a step forward in the area of coordination and cooperation between GCC states towards their unity and a contribution to reduce the cost, effort and providing secure environment to exchange data.

Meanwhile, the Saudi proposal presented examples of using the Gulf e-government network, through exchanging the data of traffic offences between traffic departments in the GCC states, and facilitating exchanging live data directly between the GCC states through the e-government network at GCC states. The Traffic System will be the nucleus to activate the unified Gulf connectivity.

At the end of the ministerial meeting of the e-government at the GCC states, the participants approved to assign the committee’s next meeting to be during next March 2014 in the State of Kuwait (the Presidency State), and this will be achieved through coordination between the presidency state and General Secretariat.
