Transforming Government since 2001
IT is new, and more accurate and reliable than the previous registration techniques, therefore proper awareness is needed and that will start next week.

Biometric voting system will be used in next year’s national general election.

It was launched last month and awareness on voting and how registration will be carried out will be explained to people during the awareness programs.

The first wave of awareness will be carried out by a team for areas around Honiara and Central Islands Province constituencies.

The first awareness team will consist of 15 people. Three persons from the team will take care of each constituency.

Central Province civic education awareness coordinator Francis Iro said the teams will organise awareness programs in local communities in the constituencies.

Training of the awareness officers concluded yesterday and they were told that it is vital to get down early with the awareness programs.

He encourages the awareness teams to take full responsibility and explain properly to people the processes involving the new biometric voting system.

“People need to ask questions inorder to know the processes and how it works.”

He said the awareness program needs working together of communities to understand the concept of biometric voting system.

He said the awareness is expected to cover all the constituencies by January 2014.
