Only 12 per cent of Swiss make use of online facilities provided by local, cantonal and federal authorities, according to a new survey.
The study - published on Tuesday - found that people recognise the advantages of communicating electronically with the authorities but are concerned about security and data protection. The survey also found that one of the main reasons for the low take-up of e-government was a lack of information about the services offered.
Several e-government projects have already been launched, including the online administrative information portal, www.ch.ch, while e-voting experiments have taken place in canton Geneva.
