Cloud hosted services could have wide-reaching positive effects on the health of people living within the European Union (EU), it has been stated.

According to EU Observer, the concept of 'e-health' could vastly benefit from the flexibility and scalability of cloud solutions.

For example, it suggests that cloud hosted services could be used to store patient data, allowing medical professionals to quickly and easily access vital information.

John Vassallo, vice-president for European affairs at Microsoft, told the publication that the shift to cloud computing will be as big as the introduction of PCs in the 1970s, adding that scalability with a huge draw for many companies.

He added that the EU must look to establish new legal frameworks that encourage cross-border cloud hosted services.

Motor manufacturer Toyota recently confirmed that it will begin installing Microsoft's Azure cloud platform in future plug-in hybrid and electric vehicles, combining telecommunications and infotainment options in one console.
