Julian Belgrave, Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) country representative, has said the Connected Arima initiative is the first of its kind in the West Indies and possibly Central America. He said there was interest in replicating the initiative in other Caribbean countries.
Belgrave was addressing over 50 Arima businessmen at a consultation with the Arima local economic development unit and the office of the MP, Pennelope Beckles-Robinson, the Arima Borough Corporation and the IDB.

Connected Arima, a project to transform the borough of Arima using technology into the country’s first smart city is an eminently good idea.
It’s a sensible approach to creating a locally relevant smart city. Pick one location with a mix of local features and challenges, deploy technology to meet citizen needs and learn from the experience before moving on to other city centres.

Minister Bacchus: T&T will not achieve goal, but will be well on its way by 2025...
Trinidad and Tobago will not be digitally transformed by 2025, but it would be well on the way to this objective, Minister of Digital Transformation Hassel Bacchus said yesterday.
Speaking at yesterday’s post-Cabinet news conference, at the Diplomatic Centre in St Ann’s, Bacchus said the proposal to have a digital vaccine card was not a simple matter. He said the technology was there but there were problems with the quality of information contained in the database. He said some of the information was inconsistent and these inconsistencies had to be fixed. He said in the meantime “the Covid thing has waned”. He said however the Ministry can still launch the project with an expanded idea of a vaccination card (covering all vaccines that a person has received).
Minister of Finance Colm Imbert says Government has been engaged in a series of reforms that seek to strengthen the overall economic management of the country including closing the digital divide.
These reforms are geared to creating a sustainable economic environment that would accommodate the generation of employment and opportunities for business development.

Digitised vaccination cards which will be coming soon will have security features that fake cards wouldn’t have and the fakes will eventually be rendered useless.
Digital Transformation Minister Hassel Bacchus confirmed this yesterday replying to recent Guardian Media queries on the digitisation of vaccination cards.
