Transforming Government since 2001

Communication in 84 parastatals has been eased following success of e-government project, the House was informed.

The Minister for Infrastructure and Communication, Mr Juma Duni Haji, said that e-government is already in full swing in 50 institutions, while connections are in final stages in 34 parastatals.

Thanks to Zantel for the connections. E-government refers to the use by government agencies of information technologies (such as Wide Area Networks, the Internet, and mobile computing) that have the ability to transform relations with citizens, businesses and other arms of government.

But, backbenchers have since 2013 been raising concerns over e-government, alleging that the multimillion project is not value for money, as the authorities respond by saying the programme is a clean deal.

Mr Haji also said that his Ministry in collaboration with the Union Ministry of Communications, Science, and Technology has fixed video conferences in five different points on Unguja and Pemba Islands.

The Minister said in developing Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in the Islands, ZTE has helped to fix 50 computers for public use at community centre at Kiembe-Samaki School, Unguja Islands.
