Speaking in Dar es Salaam on Friday, TaGLA's interim Executive Director, Mr Charles Senkondo, described a shift from TGDLC to TaGLA as a significant milestone in the government's capacity development.
"Continuous learning is a necessity in order to cope with the fast-changing global trends that we are all part of. This requires innovative approaches, including ICT supported initiatives," said Mr Senkondo.
According to TaGLA director, the agency, which was established under the Government Notice No. 445 published on December 23, 2011, started operations recently. He further said that construction of other TaGLA's settings were going on.
"In fact, the agency evolved from transformation of TGDLC to form a new entity with changed scope of operations as well as products and services demanded by the growth in clientele base," Mr Senkondo added.
Dwelling on the agency's key functions, the director said TaGLA would provide global access to development learning and knowledge sharing platform to local, regional and international beneficiaries through the use of state of the art technologies.
He said formation of the agency was an important step towards utilization of ICT technologies in the improvement of service delivery through training in the country, adding that TaGLA would complement capacity development initiatives in Tanzania.
Besides, the agency will provide global access to development learning and knowledge sharing platforms to local, regional and international beneficiaries through the use of state of the art technologies. The Agency will deepen existing partnership with similar institutions established within the continent and to over 120 within the Global Development Learning Network.
Others, according to him, include less work disruptions, travel and social disconnection, providing a platform for knowledge sharing and training and promoting government policies, culture of supporting technological use among a wide range of actors to enhance development in the country.
