The government has launched a call centre to give health information to the people across Bangladesh.

Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammed Nasim on Sunday formally opened a number, 16263, calling which people can get advice round the clock.

He said this was one more initiative of Prime minister Sheikh Hasina to reach health services to the doorsteps of the people.

This has been named as ‘government health call centre: shastobatayon’.

The event at the Secretariat was told that besides giving health-related information, the call centre will help patients get public and private ambulances.

The centre will also receive complaints against public and private hospitals and clinics.

Additional Director General for Health Prof Abul Kalam Azad, who also oversees the e-health services, briefed journalists on the service.

He said such services could also be availed of on the website 16263.dghs.gov.bd, on Facebook facebook.com/shastobatayon, by emailDiese E-Mail-Adresse ist vor Spambots geschützt! Zur Anzeige muss JavaScript eingeschaltet sein! and by SMS 008801511316263.

Britain’s development arm, Dfid, supported the government to introduce this service, the health ministry said.
