State Minister for Science and Information and Communication Technology Architect Yafez Osman here on Thursday called for sincere and collective efforts to build 'Digital Bangladesh' as announced by the present government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Addressing as the chief guest the opening ceremony of a daylong divisional seminar on "Vision 2021: Digital Bangladesh and Our responsibility" here, he said the rural people should be brought under the digitalization process side by side with the urban people to attain the cherished goal.

He added that the expected Digital Bangladesh could not be built until the village people are integrated with the modern information technology.

"We have no alternative to bringing the people under E- governance network to free the nation from the vicious cycle of hunger and poverty," the state minister said adding that the field level administrative and local government representatives have a vital role to play in this regard.

Mayor of Rajshahi AHM Khairuzzaman Liton was the special guest at the seminar, chaired by Commissioner of Rajshahi division Hafizur Rahman Bhuiyan at Nanking Darbar Hall.

Rajshahi divisional commissioner office and Science, Information and Communication Technology Ministry jointly organized the seminar.

In his address of welcome, Additional Commissioner Syed Ali Nasim Khaliluzzaman focussed on the aims and objectives of the seminar which was attended some 90 district and upazila level administrative officials, local government representatives and others concerned from all 16 districts under the division.

Executive Director of Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) Mahfuzur Rahman and Professor and Chairman of Computer Science and Engineering Department of Rajshahi University of Science and Technology Dr Shahid Uz Zaman presented two keynote papers.

BCC Chief Mahfuzur Rahman said the government has taken various steps to build 'Digital Bangladesh' and in line with the steps the ICT Policy-2009 has already been okayed by the Parliament.

He said workshops and seminars have been arranged in all divisional headquarters to apprise the stakeholders of the measures for the ICT Policy-2009.

"A project has also been undertaken in the ADP of 2009-10 fiscal year for setting up two modern computer laboratories in each upazila," he added.

He also said that a decision has been taken to bring the country's all educational institutions under computer technology and computer training for building Digital Bangladesh.

"To this end, the work for implementing a project for expanding ICT education in all secondary high schools in the country is going on," he added.
