On April 28, President of Kyrgyzstan Almazbek Atambayev discussed with Prime Minister Sooronbai Jeenbekov and Chief of Staff of President's Office Sapar Isakov the start of introduction of electronic biometric passports in Kyrgyzstan, the presidential press office said.

Electronic biometric passport of a citizen of Kyrgyzstan is an identification document of a new type that corresponds to the international standard.

It is a one of kind passport in Central Asian region that meets the requirements of the International Civil Aviation Organization and has enhanced protection.

The introduction of brand new passports will be the first step in launching of e-government system and Kyrgyzstan's entering the digital future through the implementation of the Taza Koom (Clean Society) state project aimed at elimination of corruption.

With the help of the biometric passport, the citizens of Kyrgyzstan will get the expanded access to the high-quality online servicing of the population to all state and municipal services with having to collect the unnecessary papers, Jeenbekov noted.

Kyrgyz citizens will be able to get new passports for free from May 1 until December 1, 2017.

Atambayev for his part said the introduction of new passports is a landmark event in Kyrgyzstan that has significant meaning for creation of digital society. It will help reach new heights in ensuring transparency in all the processes occurring in the country, in elimination of corruption and holding of fair and transparent elections and ensuring security.
