Kenya is exploring deeper cooperation with China on digital transformation following discussions between the government and Guodong Network Communication Group.
Principal Secretary for ICT and Digital Economy John Kipchumba Tanui received a delegation from the Chinese technology group, led by its Chairperson Lu Jie, to discuss potential areas of investment and collaboration.
The talks focused on digital infrastructure, broadband connectivity, smart cities and the wider digital economy, with Kenya seeking partnerships that can bring investment, innovation and technical expertise into the sector.
Tanui said expanding broadband access to underserved areas remains a priority as Kenya works to strengthen its digital infrastructure. He also highlighted efforts to develop digital government services that are more accessible, efficient and centred on citizens.
The discussions also explored opportunities to build on progress at Konza Technopolis as Kenya advances plans to develop smart, connected and digitally enabled cities.
The government said strategic technology partnerships and investment will be important to accelerating Kenya’s digital transformation and supporting the country’s broader economic development agenda.
