The county government of Uasin Gishu has partnered with International Training & Education Centre for Health (I-tech) to provide computers to different health facilities.

Hospitals in the county will benefit from automation of their services.

Speaking after touring Huruma Hospital in Eldoret on Wednesday, the county personnel in charge of e-health Dr David Kirui said that the county is spearheading the implementation of Hospital Management System (HMIS).

“The systems will be installed in the computers which we will distribute to various medical facilities within the county,” said Dr Kirui.

He said that the system will help manage and monitor drugs hence preventing pharmacist from keeping excess and expired drugs.

“We are the first county to implement automation of the health sector. With the employment of new nurses, our hospitals have enough manpower, hence the usage of this system will greatly reduce the queues in hospitals,” said Dr Kirui.

The County Executive for ICT & e-government Barnabas Sang said that the system will ease drug audit and disease monitoring.

“So far, four hospitals have fully acquired the computers and the HMI system have been fully installed, they include Ziwa, Turbo, Huruma and Burnt Forest. Our aim is to go paperless,” said Sang.

The Controller of Budget Agnes Odhiambo said that the system will help in creating transparency in the sector.

“This is a milestone to the sector. Other counties should follow to improve their health sector,” said Odhiambo.
