Transforming Government since 2001
Mt Kenya University vice chancellor Prof Stanley Waudo has asked the government to exploit the untapped ICT potential in Kenya.

He said this will improve knowledge and wealth creation. In a speech read on his behalf by his deputy Prof John Nderitu at the International Conference on Emerging and Future Information Communication Technologies at the Safari Park Hotel in Nairobi last Wednesday, Waudo said MKU offers elearning and virtual learning.

He said e-learning will give the necessary skills and knowledge to deal with the emerging and future information communication technologies, which will create abundant knowledge, wealth and opportunities. Waudo said universities should engage in quality research, community outreach programmes and teaching and instructional activities. The two-day conference was sponsored by MKU and organised by the Information Communication Technology Association of Kenya.

The association was represented by its chairman Bitange Ndemo. Addressing participants Rachuonyo MP James Rege said that the proposed introduction of laptops to pupils will boost learning. He said all schools should have access to internet. Rege said the state is squandering taxpayers' money to draft presidential speeches to the 47 counties instead of using e-government.
