Transforming Government since 2001
Nyeri residents will soon get free Wi-Fi. Governor Nderitu Gachagua said the Wi-Fi will be launched at Whispers Park in town. This comes only a month after Nakuru county introduced similar services.

Speaking at the Nyeri assembly during the state of the county address on Thursday, Gachagua said ICT is the “engine of modern life” and his government is investing in automation of service delivery beginning with revenue collection. “We are also establishing an ICT master plan and have signed an MoU with Jamii Telecoms to connect key institutions including the county referral hospital, town hall, central police, the county assembly and block C in the provincial headquarters to enhance connectivity and smooth flow of information,” he said.

Gachagua said MCAs should work with the executive. “In this regard, we will formally be proposing to the assembly a series of periodic consultative meetings with the executive including a standing meeting with the liason committee and a governor’s forum with the assembly,” he said. Gachagua outlined his achievements in one year in office and his future plans. He highlighted areas that need improvement including agriculture, roads, health and water. On health, Gachagua said there are advanced plans to establish a county renal unit with 10 dialysis machines.

He said his government is about to commission a computerised radiology unit in the country. “These projects will significantly change the health care system in the county. The radiology unit will serve patients from any part of the county without having to travel to the central facility thereby reducing time and costs,” Gachagua said.

He said his government has entered into an arrangement with Smile Train to offer free reconstructive surgery to people with cleft lip and palate in the county.
