CCK bagged the Best Digital Inclusion Award from the Information and Communications Technology Association of Kenya (ICTAK) after beating other organizations that had also been shortlisted for the prize. Rockerfeller Foundation, Media Eye, Enablis, ICTA, and CCK had been nominated for this award.
ICTAK also feted Dr. Gilbert Mugeni, a CCK employee, under the Distinguished ICT scholar Award category on account of having published five papers on ICT in refereed journals. Dr. Mugeni, recently graduated with a PhD in Telecommunications Engineering from the Musinde Muliro University.
He has also won a number of awards and honoraria from the National Council of Science and Technology, the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission (2012), the Vice-Chancellor’s commendation for outstanding research in Information Technology (Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology - 2013), and an admission to the ITU Experts group on Telecom/ ICT indicators (2013).
The awards, which coincided with the Kenya@50 celebrations, were aimed at recognizing distinguished individuals and institutions that have made significant contributions towards the growth of ICTs in Kenya.
The Majority Leader, Hon. Adan Duale, graced the awards ceremony held at a Nairobi hotel.
