The exercise, dubbed Land Information Management System (LIMS) is in line with the state’s E-government strategy, said Permanent Secretary, Kombo Mwero.
Mwero said retrieval of information manually has become slow and untenable due to the accumulated documents.
Officially opening a one day stakeholders workshop on the LIMS at KCCT Mbagathi ovr the weekend, Mwero underscored the need to urgently keep the administration and management of the land resource and human settlement at par with modern technology.
He noted that information technology plays a major role in achieving sustainable development and improvement of the quality of life of the citizens especially the urban poor.
The PS pointed out that the economic recovery strategy for wealth and employment creation identifies inaccurate and insufficient land records as a problem facing land administration.
He said resolving land administration problems was a critical requirements for a sustained economic recovery hence the immediate need to computerize the land records.
Mwero said the overall objective will be to develop a Kenyan LIMS for efficient, transparent, decentralized and affordable land management which will contribute to poverty reduction, good governance and improved security of tenure for all especially the poor, with particular consideration to women, widows and orphans.
