Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, in collaboration with Microsoft, launches the National Skilling Program

Qatar’s Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, in collaboration with Microsoft, has launched a new initiative aimed at accelerating sustainable human development and digital transformation in the country.

The launch of the National Skilling Program is in line with Qatar National Vision 2030 and coincided with the opening ceremony of the Digital Centre of Excellence, the first of its kind in Qatar in Msheireb Downtown Doha.

Qatar’s National Skilling Program aims to train 50,000 people by 2025 and empower them with the advanced digital skills they need to drive innovation and contribute to boosting the country’s regional and global competitiveness.

According to a statement, the Digital Centre of Excellence is expected to play a key role in building the talent pool that will help accelerate the digital transformation of government institutions and private sector companies in Qatar.

Mashael Ali Al Hammadi: acting Assistant Undersecretary of Information Technology, Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, said: “The human development pillar of Qatar National Vision 2030 motivates us on a daily basis to empower and equip the people of Qatar with the skills needed to develop the country into an advanced society capable of sustaining its development and providing a high standard of living for its people.

“The launch of the National Skilling Program and the opening of the Digital Centre of Excellence will be key to this effort, providing advanced knowledge of modern technology and cloud computing that will empower all demographics,” she added.

Jean-Philippe Courtois, Microsoft executive vice president, said: “Digital transformation will drive new economic opportunities for the people of Qatar – that’s why we must ensure that everyone has access to the skills needed to succeed in the digital era.” digital

Lana Khalaf, general manager of Microsoft Qatar, added that the launch was a “major milestone” in the tech company’s ongoing partnership with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology.

“Our efforts represent our joint commitment to unlock opportunities for the people of Qatar in the digital era by developing the technical skills of students as well as those already in the workforce,” she said.

Khalaf added that, as part of this partnership, more than 13,000 people in Qatar have been trained and certified across a variety of roles and audiences in just 18 months.

In cooperation with a number of leading international universities, the Digital Centre of Excellence aims to offer world-class training programs while LinkedIn, the world’s largest professional network, is also partnering to complement the learning journeys of participants through dedicated workshops.

The launch comes ahead of the opening of a new Microsoft Cloud datacentre region in Qatar.
