Helsenorge.no will provide information about what contributes to health, such as diet and physical activity, and take up issues such as pregnancy and mental health. It also features an overview of the various health services.
Anne-Grete Strøm-Erichsen, Minister of Health and Care Services, who launched the site, said: "eHealth is a key priority for the government. Through Helsenorge.no new technology is used to provide people with more help and better care."
She added: "People expect to interact with the health and care services in a modern and efficient manner. Most people are interested in and concerned about their own health. Now they get this information gathered together on one site. At the same time helsenorge.no will inform patients and users of their rights."
The Minister stressed that not everything on the website is functioning yet, and more services will be added over time. One important goal is to increase user involvement in healthcare. "Personal services are an important focus area for the future and I hope we can launch the services 'my reimbursable expenses' and 'my prescriptions' on the website within the next twelve months. There are many exciting opportunities ahead of us."
"The health service must involve users and patients more than it does at present. I believe that the patient must be able to be an active participant in issues concerning their own health. For this we need to invest heavily in digital services," the Minister concluded.
Helsenorge.no is part of the endeavour to improve ICT initiatives in healthcare. The Ministry of Health and Care Services will issue a white paper on health services in the daily digital environment.
There will be several suppliers of content to the new health portal, including the Directorate of Health (helsedirektoratet.no, in Norwegian). There will also be changes as to where information will be displayed. By autumn 2011, helsedirektoratet.no will feature only content aimed at the Health Service, and will no longer include content aimed at the public, as this is being transferred to helsenorge.no. During this transition period some articles aimed at the public will feature on both websites.
