With this service, doctors are able to offer 24-hour online patient examination and advice without the patients leaving their homes or offices.
The e-health initiative, an electronic health delivery system, was launched on Friday 17th May, to enable doctors reach their patients online and bring health care to the door steps of the citizenry.
The initiative, a remote doctor/patient interface allows a patient to see a doctor without leaving his home or office.
According to managers of the GHS, it does not seek to prevent patients from visiting hospital but to augment existing health care delivery services.
Former Director General of the Ghana Health Service, Prof Agyemang Badu Akosa, who also launched the service, is optimistic the electronic health service would improve medical care.
According to him, the electronic health service would help reduce pressure on the country's hospitals.
Prof Akorsa explained that the service “in the short-term inures to people who have got the money to pay for it, who do not need to go out and queue in any hospital”.
To assess the product one has to go online to book an appointment with a doctor on www.ehealthghana.com after which an appointment coordinator will assign doctors to patient depending on the ailment.
Mr Patrick Dasoberi, originator of the e-health initiative, said it would serve as a platform for doctors, to share ideas and experiences relating to patients, as well as a network for pharmacists, laboratory technicians, volunteers, service couriers, who are the core of the scheme.
Managers of the facility are also planning to place an Electronic Kiosk fitted with e-health internet in some rural areas.
