Addressing the 4th convocation of Virtual University (VU) at its main campus, Raiwind Road, she said the government attached great priority to the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector especially the e-government system. The minister said the government had put in place all possible measures to accelerate the development of ICT sector in the country.
Regarding inception of 3G and 4G technology, she said that the technology would bring economic growth and prosperity in the country and would help in eliminating unemployment. She said that youth should not only use 3G and 4G technology for watching and downloading high-definition videos, games but also they must explore the technology for data base purpose, software development, e-commerce, e-health, e-police and others.
Anusha Rehman said that the launch of e-office model in federal ministries and institutions would ensure efficiency, transparency and good governance in decision making and in providing cost-effective services to the people. She added that e-office software would decrease paper work and promote the culture of using computers for work in the institutions. The state minister said that 500 Universal Tele-Centres (UTCs) in rural areas would facilitate the people by offering them services of birth registration, e-commerce, e-health, e-learning, registration of ID card/sim card through NADRA and others.
She added that objective behind the establishment of Telecentres was to create employment opportunities and enhance Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) literacy among the people. She urged the graduates to play their due role in the progress and prosperity of the country.
Later, the Minister awarded gold medals, merit certificates and laptops among the position holder graduates. Rector of VU Dr Naveed Malik highlighted the achievements of the university, its role in information and communication technology based education and contribution in the provision of quality education to remote areas of the country. A large number of students, faculty members and notable personalities of education sector, parents were present on the occasion.
