Transforming Government since 2001
Sindh Information Technology Minister Raza Haroon says Civil Registration Management System (CRMS) will help government plan and implement e-governance in the country efficiently.

Addressing a seminar on CRMS, arranged by National Database & Registration Authority (NADRA) at a local hotel, he said with technical support of NADRA on training local governments a catalyst change in society is expected.

Director General NADRA Zahid Hussain said on CRMS talks are under way to operationalize 345 union councils across the country. There are 6550 union councils, TMAs, Cantonment boards in the country, of which 6205 are operational.

Taking all such union councils on board for registering vital events in short span of 6 years is colossal achievement. The current project of NADRA with help of UNFPA will support CRMS in rural areas where performance is comparatively low.

He said short-term project meant for 7 months would be transformed in long-term programme for five years. CRMS Directorate teams are working in coordination with UNFPA to implement project throughout Pakistan. In first stage of AWP Annual work plan, successful training and workshop activities were conducted in rural areas of Sindh, including Badin, Mirpurkhas, Hyderabad with cooperation of respective local governments.

NADRA started CRMS as a pilot project in Lahore in 2004 with collaboration of the then local government and extended to whole country in 2006. Since then NADRA is providing technical support, training facility, security paper to local government on issuing certificates and registration.
