Transforming Government since 2001
The Government of Pakistan has launched a one-stop online portal that allows users to access any and all information regarding Pakistan that is already available electronically.

Pakistan’s State Minister for Information & Broadcasting Syed Sumsam Ali Shah Bukhari launched the portal recently, called the National Rabta Information Portal, which was developed by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA).

Mr Bukhari said: “The Government of Pakistan has a strong believe in utilising Information Communication Technologies (ICTs) to move into the era of electronic service delivery (e-Services) by simplifying procedures, and making credible and timely information available to all the citizens at all levels.

“The electronic access of information will improve the productivity and efficiency of public and private organisations.”

He said that the portal would bring plenty of information not only to residents and ex-patriat Pakistanis but also to the foreigners visiting the country.

Chairman of the PTA, Dr. Mohammed Yaseen said that the internet had emerged as the “most important source for information dissemination, in addition to TV and radio” in Pakistan.

The portal would connect the “un-connected”. Any user who visits the portal will be able to access information from a single source.

Plans are afoot for PTA to develop Urdu—the national language—and Mobile versions of the portal, which boasts more than 1000 web links and 84 downloadable forms.

The portal also contains links on educational institutions, hospitals, and federal and provincial institutions.
