The Sindh Minister for Information Technology, Muhammad Raza Haroon, has expressed concern at the delay in the progress of E-Government Pilot Project.

He was presiding over a meeting which reviewed the progress of different IT projects of his Department, says a statement issued here on Monday. It said that the Minister was not satisfied with the progress E-Government Pilot Project and issued directives that the project should be completed and launched by August 31 this year so that the government can switch over from manual to electronic office system.

Raza Haroon also directed all the project directors to ensure the timely completion of their respective projects.

DUHS celebrating World Youth Day: Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) here Monday announced a debate contest to commemorate World Youth Day at Moin Auditorium, Dow Medical College campus, here Tuesday (today).

The DUHS sources giving details of the programme said students of its affiliated institutions including Dow Medical College, Sindh Medical College, Dr Ishratul Ebad Institute of Oral Health Sciences and Dow International Medical College would participate in the competition and make their arguments, for and against, on the given topics related to Pakistan Movement and Independence Day.

Rs 500,000 each for varsities engaged in work for women: The universities engaged in research and work for improving the lot of women will be given Rs 500,000 each by Gender Reform Action Programme (GRAP), Sindh.

This was stated by the Sindh Minister for Women Development, Tauqeer Fatima Bhutto while chairing a meeting here Monday.

She pointed out that initially this amount was given to Women Studies Centres at Karachi and Jamshoro Universities.

The minister said the very purpose was to suggest ways to resolve women's problems.

This, she added, would also help the government to initiate more projects for women's betterment in order to improve their living standard.

Ms Tauqeer announced that a conference and an exhibition would be arranged at Expo Centre, Karachi from August 29 to 31.

She directed for expanding the child-care training all over the province.

Malaria victimises children in Karachi: Prof Ayesha Mehnaz, in-charge Paediatrics Department, Unit Three, Civil Hospital, Karachi, has warned against growing vulnerability of children towards malaria.

Talking to APP here Monday, the senior paediatrician said drug resistance against malaria has emerged to be a serious threat for the adults in general and children specifically.

The child specialist said kids are brought to emergency department of Civil Hospital and Lyari General Hospital on daily basis.

"Malaria has turned into an endemic disease in many of the catchment areas of two hospitals with frequent outbreaks in monsoon." she said adding that there was an urgent need to develop a protocol for malaria management, based on recent WHO guidelines complimented by experience of local paediatricians.

Dr Ayesha referring to data from different parts of the world said most of the malaria induced deaths were found among children and that in every 30 seconds a child dies due to malaria in the world.

Chances of drizzle in Karachi: The Met office has forecast a partly cloudy/cloudy weather with chances of drizzle in the metropolis for next 24 hours.

The maximum temperature is expected to remain between 32 and 34 degrees Celsius.

Karachi University notification: The duration of validity of results of all examinations held under the Examinations Department except BDS and MBBS Examination, has been curtailed up to five years.

This was notified by the Controller of Examinations, University of Karachi, on Monday.

It said that in future results of all such students whose duration of passing will exceed five years would stand canalled. However, a last chance to all the students irrespective of the duration would be provided in the examinations of 2008, it was further stated.
