“We do not have a single digital market yet,” European Commission Vice President and European Commissioner for Digital Single Market Andrus Ansip said speaking at a round-table discussion themed “Single Digital Market through E-government and Digital Entrepreneurship” held in the Bulgarian capital city Sofia, FOCUS News Agency reporter said.
“I am happy to be here and discuss an issue that has been close to my heart for many years. I am happy to see Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov here, too. We are good friends and the good friends are always very hospitable,” Mr Ansip remarked.
“We do not have a single market yet. People are in the centre of our strategy and they want to enjoy the European freedoms,” the European Commissioner commented further.
He added that the Europeans wanted bigger choice and competitive prices.
“The digital market sets an accent on the business, on the traditional and the innovative companies. The market covers 500 million consumers. The management is of great importance.
As a whole, in Europe the public administration is lagged behind the private sector,” Andrus Ansip said, adding that he wished to see the digital signatures fully acknowledged and used in more member states.
“Denmark adopted the electronic invoices in 2005. In many countries the transition started very slowly. Probably this is also due to the political willingness,” he said further.
“The electronic government is not connected with cut of the expenses. It may regain the trust of the people in the state administration,” the EC Vice President remarked.
“The European Commission (EC) should be the first to give an example in this field. Ms Kristalina Georgieva [European Commissioner for the Budget and Human Resources] is a great partner in this direction.
We liked the strategy adopted by Bulgaria this year very much,” Ansip said.
In his words, Bulgaria has a chance for a good start although there are some blank spots in the rural areas.
“The Bulgarian IT experts have exceptional skills and they are well realised in international projects. The strategy on a single digital market is a long-term vision.
The electronic government is a necessity,” Andrus Ansip remarked.
