Transforming Government since 2001
Bulgaria's e-government website www.egov.bg has finally been launched, ipo.bg reported.

The launch of the e-government portal was one parameter by which progress by the state administration towards European harmonisation could be measured, Prime Minister Sergei Stanishev said at a official launch.

E-government refers to government’s use of information technology to exchange information and services with citizens, businesses, and other arms of government.

Electronic government is the contemporary working method for state administration, Stanishev said. E-government showed that Bulgarian state administration lived up to the standard that was expected of it and tax money was spent on quick, clear and transparent services for citizens and businesses, he said.

The e-government project was the outcome of the Inter-regional System for Electronic Government and the Pilot Integration System for Electronic Regional Administration projects by the State Administration Ministry, a government press statement said.

The launch was hosted by State Administration Minister Nicolai Vasilev, present were Health Minister Radoslav Gaidarski and Prosecutor-General Boris Velchev.

Guest of the official launch was Frans De Bruïne, director of the Information Society and Media Directorate-General of the European Union.
