The project of building a Telecenter network is financed and managed by the State Agency for IT and Communications, with the support of UNDP Bulgaria. The cost of the Varna center stands at more than BGN 75,000 (approximately EUR 37,000) and covers the purchase of 35 middle and high-class computers, the majority of which featuring free Internet access.
It has close relevance to every-day activities, including on-line contact with administrative authorities and on-line administrative services (e-government), distance working, information enquiries, learning, affordable communications.
In parallel to the establishment of telecenters, more powerful centers with state-of-the art technology will be established at strategic locations in some of the large cites such as airports, conference centers, and others, UNDP said in a statement.
These will be set up in partnership with businesses to showcase latest breakthroughs in communication and computer services and to be used by businessmen and citizens that demand more advanced information services. They will enable access to virtual private networks, broadband communications, video conferencing, access to specialist internet resources, or internet banking.
