The survey, carried out in April on 1,239 respondents, shows that 63 percent use the internet to follow news, followed by those who use it for information about various topics and for education, and for visits to social networks, said Zoran Torbica of the Internet Development Center.
As far as e-government and communication with officials, 80 percent of the respondents said they would like to be able to get everything done online, said Torbica.
Almost 70 percent believe it is important that information of public importance be published online so that work of institutions could be kept under control.
The respondents said the available e-government services were highly satisfactory, said Torbica.
Development of broadband internet must be one of the priorities of the Serbian government, said 82 percent of the people polled.
The e-commerce segment saw a growth of six percent compared to last year, but 64 percent of the respondents said the inability to use money transfer services such as Paypal was a problem.
State Secretary for the Digital Agenda Jasna Matic said one of the main priorities of the next government should be to make the internet more accessible to people over 50. "Our people are well educated and interested in this area, which is why the state should provide high-quality internet access, not just in big cities but across the country" said Matic, adding that Serbia had 3.5 million internet users.
