The panel of speakers included Dr. Yong Chee Tuan, Director of ICT Centre Universiti Brunei Darussalam; members of KKT; Sheikh Abas of Syabas Technologies Sdn Bhd; Haji Umar Ali bin Haji Abdullah of BIT Secretariat and the Chief of Computer Services of Information Technology and State Store Department and EGSPEC members. Haji Umar Ali said the country began e-government initiatives in 2000 in line with the 8`National Development Plan. Since 2000, the BIT Council has begun the evolvement process towards e-Government, which has steadily progressed.
Sheikh Abas described a triangular model containing the policy that needs to be in place for the e-government initiative.
The three sides of the model are made up of RAGAM 21 infrastructure, the trained human resource, and the content, he said.
Dr. Yong Chee Tuan illustrated that education plays an important role in raising awareness of the public on e-Government initiative and producing competent professionals.
