A Memorandum of Understanding signing ceremony was held this morning between the Prime Minister's Office and Ministry of Public Administration and Security, Republic of Korea on the Cooperation in the Area of e-Government. It is in line with one of the top priorities of the E-Government Strategic Plan of 2009-2014. Deputy Permanent Secretary for I.T. and e-Government at the Prime Minister's Office, who is also Brunei Overall Government Chief Information Officer CIO, was speaking at the MOU signing ceremony this morning, before signing the MOU on behalf of His Majesty's government.

Awang Abdul Mutalib bin Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Setia Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Yusof said that in the areas of e-Government, Brunei Darussalam and the Republic of Korea share the common goals to provide better services to the citizens.

The signing ceremony was witnessed by Minister of Energy, at the Prime Minister's Office, Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Singamanteri Retired Colonel Dato Seri Paduka Haji Mohammad Yasmin as Chairman of E-Government Leadership Forum EGLF. Also present was the Acting Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Brunei Darussalam, Mr Park IL.

The Senior Special Duties Officer, at the Prime Minister's Office, Dayang Hajah Mariah binti Haji Md Taha in an interview said the signing will not only further develop the e-government standards but also help to further enhance e-government knowledge and experience sharing.

South Korea's Assistant Minister and Chief Information Officer at the Ministry of Public Administration and Security, Mr Kang Jyung Hyup, said that Korea's approach was effective in that they emphasised the importance of strong e-governance and leadership upon a solid foundation of cooperation with Korea's IT business sector.
