Transforming Government since 2001
All government websites bearing the gov.bn domain shall comply with the Government Web Interface Standards and Guidelines (WISG) to provide the public with a consistent look and feel, in addition to timely updates of information when browsing through all government websites.

Senior Manager of the E-Government Technical Authority Body (EGTAB), Zailani Hj Abdul Malik said that websites complying with WISG will help to enhance the public's recognition of the Sultanate's government websites, in addition to increasing general confidence in government information and e-services.

Speaking during the "Updating the Government Websites" programme yesterday at the Civil Service Institute (IPA), Zailani explained that the guidelines will help to ensure a consistent online experience when a web reader navigates from the website of one government agency to another.

It will also help facilitate ease of navigation, retrieval of information and access to online e-services on such websites.

The heads of government institutions are accountable for the implementation of WISG in their respective institution, he added.

The programme, which features a number of talks on guidelines and procedures of not only updating and maintaining but also developing websites, was attended by some 220 participants, made up mostly of public relation officers, webmasters, web developers, web administrators, web designers and staff from various departments and ministries responsible for the running of their institution's websites.

IPA's Senior Special Duties Officer Linda Aini Abdullah said that the programme was organised with the hope that it will provide the knowledge necessary for the participants to further improve the quality of information and content displayed on such sites.

Apart from this, it is also hoped that all ministry and departmental websites will be able to fulfil the needs of their users and more importantly, ensure that the website's contents adhere to the standards and guidelines that have been finalised," she said.

"This programme is a continuation of the efforts of the Information Department, along with the E-Government National Centre, in organising the Excellent Government

Website Awards held in 2008," said Linda, adding that the one-day programme will also expose participants to the secrets of the ministry and department level winners of the award, Brunei's Ministry of Defence and the Department of Community Development (JAPEM), in developing and monitoring a successful website.

Due to the positive response received yesterday, a similar programme is scheduled to be held on October 20.
