This observation was made by the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources (MIPR), Dato Paduka Hj Mohammad Hamid bin Hj Mohammad Jaafar, during a ceremony to mark Civil Service Day in Belait District.
One method to attain public service excellence is through the use of Information Communications Technology, he said, adding that all ministries including the MIPR have prepared their own electronic programmes.
Through the e-Government initiative, the MIPR hopes to become a "single window" to make business services more convenient for entrepreneurs and other investors encompassing government agencies, he added.
The MIPR has been making strides in transforming itself into a 'electronic' ministry. In March this year, the first e-MIPR service called 'e-BINA' and 'e-Fisheries' were launched.
In conjunction with the 23rd National Day of Brunei Darussalam, His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan this year consented to the establishment of a Steering Committee for service delivery to the public, said Dato Paduka Hj Mohammad Hamid, who was the guest of honour at yesterday's event.
Meanwhile, the Belait District officer said that in a dynamic and challenging work environment, the public service is not only expected to be more efficient, effective and productive in executing government administration, but also be highly innovative in creating products and services.
Five Quality Control Circle groups who took part in last Saturday's 10th National Level Quality Control Circle at the International Convention Centre received their bronze awards yesterday.
The five groups were: 5M from Belait and Seria Municipal Department; AFDHAL from the Judiciary Department; PROCESSING group from Community Development Department; A-TEAM from Fire and Rescue Department; and, KITAB from the Language and Literature Bureau.
There was also a presentation by the Belait Innovative Group (BIG) group from Royal Customs and Excise who won the silver award this year.
Their presentation was on tightening the control posts and strengthening enforcement to restrict items from passing through the Sungai Tujoh Control Post.
Yesterday's event, which was held at Dewan Santap Kuala Belait, also honoured 102 civil service officials and other staff members who have retired.
