"Brunei Darussalam has successfully harnessed the power of ICT to the operational and technical advantage. The introduction of ICT has provided an opportunity for Brunei Darussalam to develop a variety of government strategies and initiatives as well as the ability to promote efficiency in the workforce through better and faster delivery of services.
"In civil services, where we provide services to the public, timeliness of delivery would be possible to achieve because of standardisation in operational processes. Brunei Darussalam has taken a highly proactive and positive role in the development of ICT sectors.
"With ICT taking key position in the modernisation of Brunei's public sectors, the government of His Majesty the Sultan dan Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam has undertaken e-government projects, which started in year 2000 with the vision to be e-smart Government in line with the 2111 century Civil Service vision.
"And with the vision, His Majesty's government aims to establish electronic governance and services to best serve the nation. The c-government projects are implemented to ensure the public and business communities will he able to receive effective services from the government agencies and at the sonic to enable the development and growth of the economy; “the minister said.
He said ICT programmes will serve as the catalysts in the country's development while introducing a work culture that is more effective, proactive and transparent. The public services should be dynamic and expose to the current environment so that it will be able to bring about a paradigm swift and a change of positive attitude in the era of modernisation and globalisation.
Awang Abd Ghani bin Pg Hj Metusin, the CEO of TechnoNet Sdn Bhd, said "we believe that our country, Brunei Darussalam, is not exempted from the relentless wave of that evolving technology. As we are all aware, Brunei is currently in the process of embracing ICT, both in the public and private sectors, with the e-Government initiative.
"However, the use of technology alone does not necessarily equal progress, but rather it is the effective and proper use of current technology which will prove to he an important assets in any organisation."
