THE INFORMATION Technology Foundation of the Philippines (ITFP) plans to extend training to government procurement officers as part of its “contribution” to the newly established Coalition Against Corruption.

“This will allow government procurement officers to understand purchases involving technology,” said ITFP president Cynthia Mamon in an interview. Mamon said ITFP will sign up with the Coalition in October.

“ITFP is doing this also in support of the Commission on Information and Communications Technology, which is set to release funds for e-government projects,” Mamon said.

Mamon said government procurement officers "need to understand" technology to help them make more intelligent decisions when buying IT solutions.

Mamon revealed that ITFP has been working with local consulting group SGV in the development of a training framework for government procurement officers.

“Our contribution to the coalition will be in kind,” she said.

A group of business organizations led by the Makati Business Club launched on Tuesday the Coalition Against Corruption during an anti-corruption conference in Makati City.

The Coalition also launched a fund drive targeting the local business community.

The Coalition has collected 3 million pesos’ worth of pledges from the Makati Business Club, the Phinma Group of Companies and Ayala Corp.
