Transforming Government since 2001
The e-Government Fund technical working group recently approved the disbursement of 248 million pesos for two new information technology-related projects for the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD). The DILG's Public Safety Information Network (PSIN) and the DSWD's Frontline Service Project will be receiving 194 million pesos and 54 million pesos respectively, from the four-billion-peso eGovernment Fund, Department of Science and Technology (DOST) undersecretary Fortunato de le Pena said.

PSIN is an information network of safety and crime information connecting the databases of the DILG, the Philippine National Police, the National Police Commission, the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, the Philippine Public Safety College, the Bureau of Fire Protection, and the Philippine Center for Transnational Crime.

Meanwhile, the DSWD Frontline Service Project is a welfare monitoring system for non-government organizations and private charity groups.

The DSWD will also be working on a system that will let children of overseas Filipino workers apply for welfare services online and a system for the electronic filing of adoption papers for residents or foreigners.

The two new projects will bring the total of eGovernment Fund recipients to 20, with five more being reviewed for approval.

De le Pena, said only 463 million pesos remains in the eGovernment Fund though he expects these to be disbursed soon to other projects being considered.

"We have to use up the amount to other projects before the end of the year or we‚ll have to return the remainder to the National Treasury," De la Pena said.

De la Pena said he has called for a meeting on September 13 among the members of the review group to evaluate more projects.

"We're reviewing the projects of the Philippine General Hospital, the Department of Health, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Service Administration and another one from the DILG," De la Pena said.

He said he was trying to convince the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Forestry and Natural Resources Research and Development, the Department of Agrarian Reform, and the Philippine Rice Research Institute to consolidate their versions of the e-Farm project, which is aimed developing new agricultural techniques.
