First District Election Officer Stephen Roy Cañete announced that the 75,000 Zamboangueño voters with incomplete biometrics will be able to vote in the May 9, 2016 national and local elections.
Cañete told the Philippines News Agency on Saturday that the Commission on Elections (Comelec) promulgated a resolution allowing voters with incomplete biometrics to vote in next year’s elections.
Cañete said the Comelec promulgated Resolution 10013 in an en banc meeting held on Tuesday.
He said the same resolution states that voters without biometrics at all will be deactivated from the Voters’ Registration System (VRS).
The biometrics includes the computer-generated picture, signature, and fingerprint of a voter.
Cañete said the promulgation of the resolution was a positive development since 75,000 voters from this city will benefit from it.
He said that 41,000 of the 75,000 voters were from this city’s first district and the remaining 34,000 from the second district.
The first district covers 37 of this city’s 98 barangays while the remaining 61 barangays fall under the second district.
Cañete said 80 percent of the 75,000 lack the computerized signature while the remaining 20 percent have no computerized thumbmark in the VRS.
