The eGovernance award is conferred by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) and the National ICT Confederation of the Philippine (NICP) on local government units for good governance, especially in using information and communication technology (ICT) in its day to day business.
The QC government won the award for its Point-of-Sale (POS) Tax Collection, which the city government, through the QC Information and Technology Development Office headed by Paul Imjada, had submitted as the city’s entry in the said competition and category.
The finalists were chosen out of the 1,714 LGUs in the country and will compete for the Top 3 awards in two categories: Government to Business (G2B) and Government to Customer (G2C).
The finalists were adjudged on the following criteria: innovative management (25 pts), which refers to mechanisms and strategies which contributed to the success of the ICT Project; impact (25 pts), or the major results of ICT programs and its benefits to the public; relevance of the project (25 pts); and its replication potential (25 pts) or the project’s applicability in other agencies or localities.
The annual activity aims to encourage the effective and efficient utilization of ICT of Local Government Units (LGUs) in their delivery of services and performing of duties and responsibilities to their constituents. It also seeks to document best practices of LGUs in integrating ICT in their systems and operations which other LGUs can replicate.
The award also aims to promote transparency in local governance and improve the business climate of LGUs, as well as motivate private sectors to actively participate and invest in local economic activities.
