Siegfred Mison, BI Officer-in-Charge, said the Department of Justice has approved installations at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport amd Clark International Airport among other terminals.
“Since 2012, BI computers at the NAIA had ‘downtimes’ at least 15 times lasting for several minutes, that led to queues and manual processing of passengers at the immigration counters,” he said.
Mison said the P84-million automation project would cover 220 passport readers, 200 work stations, 440 fingerprint scanners, 350 high definition webcams, and 10 document scanners.
Besides the purchase, the agency is scheduled to receive 10 passport readers from the Philippine Airlines and 15 workstations from the Clark International Airport Authority.
According to Mison, Commission on Audit rules allow replacement of the passport reader models in 2008 which have a service life of four years.
